Geotagging with Lumix LX100

My tutor recommend I research GPS mapping following the ‘My Square Mile’ assignment.  I’m already familiar with the concepts as I use GPS data for walking / recording routes (iPhone app) and any snapshots taken on an iPhone have GPS data attached. However, I’m not familiar how to record data with my serious cameras (none of which have built-in GPS).

I started by researching some general information – http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Photo_mapping – accessed 1.3.15. and found that some cameras can create GPS data in images by time syncing GPS data recorded on a mobile phone.

I found that the Panasonic Lumix LX100 does this through its ‘Image App’ – turn on GPS log on the phone from the app and later sync data from that log to the images on the camera (matched using time data) so the GPS data is then attached to each image. All from within the app and with wifi connection between the camera and phone to perform the syncing exercise.

I will try it next time I’m out!
